Man accused in 100 mph crash that killed NC deputy appears in court

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — The man accused of going 100 mph and causing a crash that killed a young Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office deputy this weekend has appeared in court.

Bryan Castillo, 19, had a first appearance on Tuesday morning for a charge of second-degree murder. He was initially charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, reckless driving, speeding and cited for crossing the center line.

On Monday, District Attorney Jim O’Neill announced that Castillo had been charged with second-degree murder.

Castillo is accused of driving 100 mph on a 55 mph stretch of Walnut Cove Road in Forsyth County around 6 a.m. Saturday. He then allegedly crossed into the other lane and hit the FCSO vehicle driven by Kaleb Mitchell, 24. Mitchell died from his injuries…
