LINCOLN, R.I. (WPRI) — A veteran off-duty Providence police officer has been suspended without pay after a monthslong internal review found he violated the department’s code of conduct, Target 12 has learned.
In October, Detective Gary Slater was at Bally’s Twin River Casino with family members. At some point, security intervened when Slater “reportedly threatened to kill other patrons,” according to a police report obtained by Target 12.
Target 12 first reported in October that police responded to the casino for an incident involving off-duty Providence Police Detective Gary Slater, but authorities declined to release any further details.
