ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — During the PGA Championship at Oak Hill in 2023, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was tasked with keeping the skies above the golf course safe.
“During that we had the ability to detect and find the operators of the drones and I think the first day we made contact with 9 drone operators and took them out of the sky, one of them we charged with a reckless endangerment charge, it was buzzing the Good Year Blimp and we were able to make an arrest and a successful conviction on that,” said Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter.
That experience prompted MCSO to study drones and their possible risk to public safety…
