A medical research company in Central New York is participating in a study that could impact people with liver disease due to alcohol use.
The new medicine is called pemvidutide. Ichor Research says it could potentially reduce cravings for alcohol and repair the liver from chronic alcohol use. GLP-1, the drug often used for weight loss and diabetes, is in pemvidutide, which could help with cravings for alcohol as well as weight loss.
