Elderly couple trapped after 89-foot oak crashes through roof

GREENWELL SPRINGS, La. (WAFB) – L.H. and Tricia Pourciau had just poured their morning coffee, thankful that they had made it through last night’s storm, when, out of nowhere, their roof caved in on them.

The couple had weathered the 2016 flood and rebuilt their life in the house they called home for 51 years. Now, they were trapped in the kitchen after an 89-foot water oak fell through their roof.

The couple scrambled for an exit, but the hallway door was blocked. Eventually, they found their way to the front door and were able to view the damage for themselves.

The monster oak in their backyard had withstood Wednesday night’s winds and rain. Thursday morning, the soggy yard gave up its hold on the tree’s roots, and the giant oak toppled across the entire house.

Neighbors, first responders, and church family have already begun helping the Pourciaus, who, now in their 80s, say they’ll begin the rebuilding process as soon as the tree is gone…
