New Punk Rock Coming-of-Age Movie Gets Epic Trailer Ahead of SXSW Premiere [Exclusive]

The yearly festivities at SXSW are officially underway, with lovers of the arts gathering in Austin, Texas, to get their fill of cinema, music, and more. Tomorrow, on Friday, March 13, event goers will be invited to celebrate the world premiere of the newest feature to hail from co-directors Megan Rico and Kade Atwood with the arrival of their comedy Edie Arnold Is a Loser. Packed with plenty of laughs and a very different coming-of-age tale from what audiences have grown accustomed to, the Infigo Films-backed project showcases everything that the annual gathering is about and then some. Today, ahead of the production’s debut unveiling, Collider is thrilled to exclusively premiere the trailer and introduce audiences everywhere to their latest punk rock obsession.

High school is difficult for everyone, but it’s arguably much more intense when you’re an outlier stuck at a Catholic school like Edie Arnold (Adi Madden Cabrera). Popping off with plenty of energy, the trailer wastes zero time in getting the band together, as we see Edie attempt to sway her friends into starting a music group. But, there’s just one hang-up — her mom can’t find out. It’s a problem the gang can easily swerve around, until Edie and the rest of her bandmates take off with the local scene and become an overnight sensation. Stepping into a newfound popularity with her peers and the boys who wouldn’t have given her the time of day before, Edie is ready to take on the world at the Battle of the Bands, even if it might end with her expulsion. Fun, comedic, and overflowing with teen badassery, the trailer is giving us plenty of Broad City, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and Freaks and Geeks vibes.

Meet the Team Behind ‘Edie Arnold Is a Loser’

Joining Cabrera in the punk rock flick is a lineup of talent that also includes McKenna Tuckett, Cherish Rodriguez (Into the Wild Frontier), Niki Rahimi, Lucas Van Orden (Drop Off), Alexa Paige (Buffalo Daze), Luseane Pasa (Snack), Alana Mei Kern (The Stranger in My Home), Gabe Root, Bryson Alejandro (Oregon Trail) and more.
