Possible data center near Beloit raises concerns in the community

BELOIT, Wis. (WIFR) – A Facebook group called ‘No Beloit Data Center’ was created a week ago to protest a possible data center coming to the Town of Beloit.

Wednesday night, the community gathered at the Beloit Public Library to discuss what a data center is, what it could mean for the residents if the town approved it and how it could affect the environment.

Town leaders say they are in the early stages and in a statement from the Town of Beloit, they say, “No applications, site plans, or proposals have been submitted to town staff or elected officials.”

The site being discussed is a working gravel pit on the northeast side of the Town of Beloit, owned by Rock Road Companies, and is larger than 430 acres.

Town Administrator John Malizio says the town entered into a pre-development agreement with Cambrin LLC in July. The agreement allows the developer to conduct studies and explore the possibility of development while covering the town’s costs…
