Beer spill in Aurora neighborhood prompts hazmat response

Aurora Fire Rescue’s hazmat team responded after a major party foul happened in a neighborhood Tuesday morning.

According to a social media post from the department, firefighters responded to a hazardous materials investigation near South Chambers Road and East Mexico Avenue. The department said a pickup truck was carrying containers labeled as corrosive and flammable and spilled liquid down a street, which led to a 911 call.

Firefighters then arrived and blocked the street as members of the hazmat team isolated the leak and took samples from the containers to analyze. The hazmat team determined the liquid did not post a health or safety risk, then learned from the owner of the truck that old beer was being transported in mislabeled containers.

Aurora Fire Rescue said nobody was injured in the incident and no criminal charges were filed. The department said hazardous material placards should only be displayed on vehicles and containers that actually contain hazardous materials…
