Teen admits killing Schenectady boy as grieving mother cries out in court

SCHENECTADY — The bereaved mother of Dubar Knowles, a 15-year-old killed in a shooting at a house party, cried out, “My baby,” and wailed loudly enough for the judge to warn her to keep it down as her son’s killer admitted in court that he killed her son.

Tyesha Murray’s emotional reaction came in response to Dahnel Sexton, now 17, answering “yes, sir” when the Schenectady County Family Court Judge Mark Blanchfield asked him if he “intentionally caused the death of” her son during the late-night hours of Oct. 12, 2024.

It’s not the first time Murray has looked across a Schenectady courtroom in agony to see the killer of one of her children. “You’re lucky I can’t get to you,” she told Raekwon Stover as relatives and guards held her back when Stover was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison in 2017 for murdering her daughter Medina Knowles the previous year…
