CECIL COUNTY — Maryland State Police does not call or text people to request money from them — under no circumstances whatsoever, agency officials emphasized on Wednesday while alerting the public of the latest phone scam.
In the scam, callers pretend to be law enforcement officers in order to steal personal information from the person receiving the phone call, police said. The police impersonator sometimes uses a real name of a law enforcement officer in an attempt to gain the trust of the victim, police added.
