Big Builder Drops 280-Home Bomb On Charlotte Suburbs

M/I Homes is getting ready to crank up construction around Charlotte, with the builder saying Thursday it will start sales on more than 280 new residences spread across two regional communities. One of those projects, Montevue, is slated for roughly 93 homes on about 63 acres along Odell School Road in Concord, while the second community is planned in Hickory.

Those plans were first detailed by the Charlotte Business Journal, which reports that the combined home count across the Concord and Hickory sites tops 280 and that M/I Homes aims to open sales soon. Reporter Collin Huguley identifies the Montevue name for the Concord project and outlines the acreage and home total tied to that parcel.

Builder Footprint In Concord And Catawba

M/I Homes already shows multiple Concord neighborhoods on its website, including Piper Landing and Annsborough Park, reflecting an active pipeline in Cabarrus County. The company’s Charlotte metro listings also extend into neighboring counties, a lineup that signals executives are intent on beefing up their regional inventory.

Market Snapshot

Local housing data paint the backdrop for that strategy, with median sale prices and months of inventory still tight across the Charlotte region even as listings tick higher. The Canopy MLS January 2026 Local Market Update shows a rolling 12 month median sales price near $390,000 and months supply around 2.7 for the region, numbers that point to ongoing demand pressure. The full breakdown is available from Canopy MLS.

Approvals, Timing And What To Watch

The Charlotte Business Journal report does not spell out full permitting details or build schedules for Montevue or the Hickory community, and M/I Homes’ public community pages also do not yet show a sales release for either site. County planning dockets, subdivision plats and formal sales announcements from the builder are expected to fill in that timeline, and those tracking the Hickory side of the rollout can keep an eye on the Catawba County communities listed on M/I Homes…
