BONDURANT, Iowa — Wind power is the largest source of electricity generation in Iowa, but when wind turbines reach the end of their use, most of the time they go straight to the landfill. But one local company has found a second use for the blades.
Renewablade is a locally owned company in Bondurant and turns retired wind turbine blades into concrete that can be shaped in different molds for various uses.

The business started in 2020, and after a few years, the company was able to perfect the mixture of sand, aggregate, other materials, and the ground-up wind turbine blades.
“We realize there’s a problem in recycling the blades years ago,” said Nick Wylie with Renewablades. “We were getting asked to downsize them by some different organizations because there just was a problem. There’s no solution for it, and they were going into landfills.”…
