Des Moines man sentenced to 25 years for string of burglaries

DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines man faces up to 25 years in prison after committing a string of burglaries at multiple local businesses last year.

31-year-old Evan Gustin pleaded guilty in mid-February to the following list of charges: one count of first-degree theft, four counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of third-degree criminal mischief, third-degree attempted burglary, second and fourth-degree criminal mischief and assault causing bodily injury.

On Wednesday, a district judge instructed that four of the felony charges were to run consecutively while the other counts were to run concurrently for a total of 25 years. The first-degree theft carries the most serious penalty of 10 years in prison…
