Former Jackson Mayor Lumumba seeks dismissal of bribery charges

Former Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba has filed a motion asking a federal judge to dismiss the corruption charges against him in the Jackson bribery case.

The motion, filed Feb. 27 in U.S. District Court, is listed as restricted on the public docket, meaning the filing and its exhibits are not currently available for public review. Because the filing is restricted under the court’s sealing process, the contents of Lumumba’s motion cannot yet be reviewed.

Lumumba is charged alongside Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens and former Jackson City Councilman Aaron Banks. All three men were indicted in November 2024 and have pleaded not guilty.
