Kansas City launches new department to unify public safety – creating 120 new jobs

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Kansas City is launching a Department of Community Safety, unifying prevention, rehabilitation and reentry services citywide.

City Manager Mario Vasquez and Mayor Quinton Lucas announced the department on Thursday, March 12, saying the move is designed to break down silos that have separated public safety efforts.

“Kansas City has made real progress on public safety, but our efforts have too often operated in silos,” said Mayor Quinton Lucas. “The Department of Community Safety brings together violence prevention, reentry services, and community accountability into one unified structure to support safer neighborhoods for all of Kansas City.”…
