Janesville man accused of forging checks to steal from woman who was in hospital

JANESVILLE, Wis. — A Janesville man forged checks to steal from a woman while she was in the hospital, a criminal complaint alleges.

According to the complaint, filed Thursday in Rock County, James Nachreiner was hired to work on the woman’s home in the summer of last year, with an agreement that half the money would be paid up front and the rest after the work was done. The woman fell ill while Nachreiner was on the job and spent multiple weeks in a hospital and about a month in a nursing home.

The woman gave her son permission to write Nachreiner checks for work while she was in the hospital. However, when she got out of the hospital she was greeted by a letter from her bank stating she owed an overdraft fee…
