Chris Sharp Speaks To AC Board of Regents Through Statement

The Amarillo College Board of Regents held a Special Meeting Tuesday night, focusing on the recently completed forensic audit by Weaver (auditing firm). The board voted to approve the audit as it was presented.

During Public Comments, Amarillo resident and retired AISD teacher Kim Benson suggested that moving forward the board should consider using and publishing monthly check registers, just as the City of Amarillo has. Check registers can be viewed by the public, adding another level of transparency. Board of Regents Chairman Jay Barrett and AC VP and General Council both said they like the idea and discussions have been held about it.

The surprise of the meeting was Amarillo resident Michael Ford addressing the board during Public Comment. He said he was speaking on behalf of Chris Sharp, the former VP of Business Affairs whom the college suggested caused the audit. Through Ford, Sharp said he was addressing the board directly to defend his work, legacy and good name. The statement noted the audit found there was “No missing money, no fraud and no personnel enrichment. Every dollar is accounted for.”…
