Bismarck, North Dakota – Temperatures across the Dakotas could climb into the upper 60s and lower 70s by Thursday afternoon, signaling a noticeable warmup as a broad western heat surge expands into portions of the Northern Plains during the first full days of spring.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, the large-scale weather pattern developing Wednesday through Sunday, March 18–22, favors above-normal temperatures across much of the western and central United States, including North and South Dakota. Many locations may see temperatures running 15 to 20 degrees above typical mid-March levels
