Clark County settles lawsuit with widow of Vancouver police officer killed by deputy

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Clark County has approved a multi-million dollar settlement with the wife of Vancouver police officer Donald Sahota.

On Wednesday afternoon, county councilors unanimously agreed to pay Sahota’s widow $7.5 million to settle a lawsuit she filed in federal court last year.

Donald Sohata, who was a Vancouver police officer and off-duty at the time, was at his home near Battle Ground when a man entered and attacked him in January 2022.

The two men fought while Sahota’s wife called 911. The fight moved to the front porch, where the intruder stabbed Officer Sahota and punctured his lung. Minutes later, Officer Sahota was shot and killed by Deputy Jonathan Feller, who responded to the scene and mistook him for the intruder…
