More than 1,600 community members gathered Wednesday evening in the Michigan Theater to attend “An Evening of Songs and Stories” featuring Patti Smith, an American punk singer-songwriter and author. The event was part of a series of collaborations between Marquee Arts and Literati Bookstore since 2023, showcasing authors and their literary works. During the event, Smith used both song and prose as she promoted “Bread of Angels,” her newest memoir.
Smith is a pioneer in the field of punk rock who blends poetry with shouted lyrics with angry, anti-establishment music. She rose to prominence in the 1970s and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
