Family sues Hamilton County sheriff after inmate dies in jail

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – A Hamilton County family is filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the Hamilton County sheriff, alleging their loved one died after not receiving critical medical care while experiencing opioid withdrawal in jail.

The family of Jacob Grayson said he died during opioid withdrawals while in the Hamilton County Justice Center in November 2024. The lawsuit alleges staff at the Hamilton County Justice Center and the jail’s private medical contractor failed to provide critical medical care.

According to the complaint, Grayson was vomiting, dehydrated, and collapsed in his cell. The suit says deputies who contacted the jail’s medical unit after Grayson passed out were told not to bring him to medical because it was “female day.”…
