TN Traveler: Circling the square in Springfield: History, food, decorator items

Editor’s note: This is the first in an occasional series about town squares in our region.

SPRINGFIELD – Danny Atchley got a view of Springfield’s town square that few people get when he escorted a TV photographer to the top of the Robertson County Courthouse bell tower. In addition to views to the horizon, he and the photographer looked down on a collection of buildings with many tales to tell.

One is the Robertson County History Museum, originally a post office from 1915. It is a logical starting point for a walk around the courthouse square, a stroll that can include a detour down Jail Alley, browsing in a shop owned by a well-known interior decorator and enjoying a quesadilla at an authentically furnished and decorated Mexican restaurant…
