Shelby Township Goes Smash Crazy As Patty & Press Opens With Free Burgers

Shelby Township burger lovers might want to set an alarm. Patty & Press, the metro Detroit smashburger concept from chefs Goran Dimic and Brandon Gorgies, is marking its formal grand opening on Van Dyke Avenue on Saturday, March 21. The shop has quietly been serving customers since a soft opening in December, already drawing a loyal crowd for its grass-fed smashburgers and beef tallow fries, and owners are planning an early-bird giveaway to kick off opening day.

According to Detroit Metro Times, the grand opening starts at 11 a.m. on March 21, and the first 100 guests in line will each snag a free burger, one per person. The same report notes that the Shelby Township location began with a soft opening in December and that the team is already looking to enlarge the kitchen to keep up with demand.

Menu and how it’s made

The Shelby menu sticks to the hits: smashburgers, hand-cut fries and milkshakes, plus a few twists such as a truffle smash and a fried-chicken sandwich. On its website, Patty & Press highlights its use of 100% grass-fed beef and fries cooked in beef tallow, stressing a no-seed-oil approach across all of its locations.

Local suppliers and prices

Detroit Metro Times reports that the Shelby shop is keeping things local, sourcing buns from Rising Stars Academy and ice cream for its shakes from Guernsey Farms Dairy. The outlet lists a classic smash meal at $12.90 before taxes. The same coverage notes that the owners are already preparing to expand the kitchen at the Van Dyke spot because of heavy traffic from area customers.

Who’s behind the burger

Chefs Goran Dimic and Brandon Gorgies launched Patty & Press under their G&B Hospitality group, which also runs Naked Burger and Berkley Common, according to DBusiness.
