Gus’s Good Times Deli celebrates 45 years of serving Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Gus’s Good Times Deli celebrated its 45th anniversary. The deli was originally opened on March 13, 1981, by owner Gus Captain.

If you go to the University of Tennessee, then you’ve probably been to the deli. It’s a staple of the Cumberland Strip. The deli has overcome challenges over the years, from COVID-19 to being burned down in 1993. It was rebuilt in the same spot after the fire.

Business was booming at Gus’s on Friday, but despite the rush, the owner and operator, Aaron Hale, spoke with 6 News in between serving up meals.

“It’s amazing. I’ve been here since I was a kid and it’s the only job I’ve ever had,” said Hale. “We’ve got a lot of good, loyal customers over the years that really love us and respect what we do here. […] There’s not many places like us left. There’s not many local places left. There’s not many places with a story left.”…
