Kearny bans Airbnb and other short-term rentals ahead of 2026 World Cup

The Kearny Town Council approved a ban against all short-term apartment rentals through companies like Airbnb in the Town ahead of the 2026 World Cup in New Jersey.

“It causes such havoc in each individual neighborhood. We had a big issue a couple of months ago, so the residents are quite concerned,” Mayor Carol Jean Doyle told HCV about the decision.

Doyle said the move follows resident complaints about these rentals put up for rent through apps like Airbnb or VRBO.

Back in 2017, the governing body adopted an ordinance banning short-term rentals of single family homes for less than 30 days. Now, the town has expanded that to include all other forms of residential units, including in two-family homes and multi-family buildings…
