A stolen Penske box truck was recovered in Syracuse on Tuesday (March 10), leading to the arrest of three individuals. Deputies from the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office stopped the truck near the CNY Regional Market at 2100 Park St. after it matched the description of a vehicle reported stolen from DeWitt.
The driver, Miranda Vogel, 40, and passenger Hollie Payne, 48, both from Syracuse, were detained at the scene. They informed deputies that another man, Stephen M. Smith, 42, of Fulton, was with them. Smith, who was wanted on multiple outstanding warrants, was found hiding in a tent near a homeless encampment after attempting to flee the scene.
Smith’s warrants included charges of stealing property, stealing vehicles, and drug possession, dating back to August. He was issued an appearance ticket for second-degree obstructing governmental administration and was booked into the Onondaga County Justice Center for the outstanding warrants.
