Kids for Hearts: Fairview Elementary coach retires after 36 years leading jump rope fundraiser

SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) – A longtime physical education coach at Fairview Elementary is retiring after 36 years, closing out his career with the annual Kids for Hearts fundraiser — a jump rope event created roughly 40 years ago to help fight heart disease.

Coach Mike Gillum has led students through jump rope tricks including Double Dutch, Criss Cross, and Run in Place.
