Windy weather impacts Rockford-area food trucks

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – With wind gusts reaching 60 miles per hour Friday, traveling food vendors closed for the safety of staff and customers.

“Zero to 20 miles per hour wind is our okay goal. If it’s 20 to 40, that’s when we start looking at is ‘it safe to be on the road? How far away is the distance?’” said Donald Cycyzk, founder and CEO of Sassy Mac Boys.

Owner of Bings Drive-In, Nicole Samp, says if they opened Friday, there’s a chance the grill wouldn’t light. She says bad weather normally doesn’t stop them.

“Even if it’s 19 degrees or 95, we are still actively food trucking,” said Samp.

That’s not the only concern. Cycyzk says ventilation and pipes on trailers can cause problems…
