TULSA, Okla. – The last of 63 homes arrived in a Tulsa neighborhood established for formerly homeless people, and within weeks, more residents will move in. “So that’s 63 folks that in the past were sleeping in the streets, sleeping in woods, cars, shelters, you name it, said Brad Johnson, the Founder of Eden Village Tulsa, “So they’ve got a home in the community now.”
Johnson spearheaded the effort to build Eden Village, which is modeled after a much older and larger Eden Village development in Springfield, Missouri. The final home for the Tulsa development was delivered on Friday, and Johnson said he had more than one thousand applicants on a waiting list.
James Sims, speaking from his neighbor Shon Frasier’s porch, said, “You know, I’m not just surviving. I am thriving and living now, instead of just, you know, how am I going to eat today? Or where am I going to sleep tonight? Now I worry about what am I going to do today? What am I going to accomplish today? What am I thankful for today? I do wake up that way.”…
