Florida man on journey to find World War II flag owner in South Carolina

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — While on a job site in Horry County, South Carolina in December, Florida resident Jose Palermo was approached by an older woman who presented him with a simple request: To hang a special flag from one of the crew’s cranes.

The request came as Palermo was helping break down equipment on the site in Little River. The woman drove up to the crew, which confused Palermo.

“She comes out, and she’s crying,” he said. “And I’m like, what’s going on? And she’s like, ‘Please, if you can, please hang my father’s flag on the crane.”

The woman told Palermo the flag belonged to her father, Richard, who was a World War II veteran…
