Roanoke police overspend $300K gun violence prevention grant

ROANOKE, VA. (WFXR) – An audit found that the Roanoke Police Department (RPD) overspent a $300,000 state gun violence prevention grant. Mike Crawley, the Roanoke Deputy Chief of Police says the City of Roanoke received the grant in 2020.

The funding was used to support RPD’s Rapid Engagement of Support in the Event of Trauma (RESET) program, which provides mentoring services for at-risk teens referred through courts, schools or families.
