Man wanted on felony accused in Rochester crash that critically injured driver

A motorist was seriously injured Wednesday night after a car driven by a Rochester man wanted on a felony warrant in Missouri crashed into another vehicle during a brief police pursuit.

Capt. Greg Bello of the Rochester Police Department said the incident injured two men and nearly struck several officers who were conducting a traffic stop. A patrol vehicle was also damaged.

The initial traffic stop on Sullivan Street

The incident began just before 8 p.m. on Sullivan Street near Joseph Avenue, where police had stopped a motorist — a 21-year-old man — driving a Jeep without a front license plate, Bello said. The vehicle had also drawn officers’ attention because of recent violence in the northeast section of the city.

The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, did not have a valid license. Officers placed him in the rear seat of a patrol car, where he was sitting with his legs outside the open door, Bello said.
