Witness apologizes to jury for raising insurance prices in staged car crash scheme trial

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – A witness in the federal trial against two New Orleans injury attorneys apologized to jurors Friday for his role in an alleged staged car crash scheme, telling them he was partly responsible for raising insurance prices across the state.

Damian Labeaud, described by prosecutors as an alleged “slammer” — someone who would intentionally collide with 18-wheelers in exchange for kickbacks from insurance payouts — finished his testimony Friday morning.

“I’m part of being responsible for… making your prices high,” Labeaud said.

Defense targets witness credibility
