Identity released of man killed during incident with Riverton police on I-15

RIVERTON, Utah (KUTV) — Authorities have identified the man who was fatally shot by a police officer during an Interstate 15 traffic stop in Draper.

Branden Scott Markham, 36, was airlifted to an area hospital where he later died following a shooting during a traffic stop that occurred just south of Bangerter Highway on Tuesday.

Markham was reportedly sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle when it was pulled over by Riverton police. Officials said they noticed Markham had a gun. When given orders to give up the weapon, Markham reportedly refused to do so, at which point an altercation ensued outside of the car.

During the altercation, Markham was shot by an officer with the Riverton Police Department and then transported to the hospital. Officials announced his death on Wednesday…
