Eugene police warn of rising wire transfer scams targeting older bank customers

EUGENE, Ore. — The Eugene Police Department is warning the public about wire transfer scams.

A Eugene bank has advised the Eugene Police Department they have seen an uptick in older persons who are coming into the bank for a ‘wire transfer,’ where the money ultimately ends up in a scammer’s account.

During their interactions with the victims, employees noticed the victims had been coached by a scammer to say they are getting work done on their house or sending money to a relative…
