It’s just the beginning: More intense heavy rain, thunderstorms expected into weekend

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A potent “Kona low” (Leeward low) has brought another round of heavy rain to the islands on Thursday, March 12.

A general repeat of the hit-or-miss heavy rain is expected once again on Friday. By late Thursday to Sunday, the heavy rain is expected to increase, and the threat for severe thunderstorms will peak during this timeframe.

Isolated tornadoes and possibly hail cannot be ruled out, especially on Friday and Saturday.

Strong southerly winds are also expected with wind gusts approaching 50 mph, especially for downsloping areas of the north and east shores…
