Son of resident at St. Peter’s shares concerns over closure

ALBANY, NY (NEWS10) — Earlier this week St. Peter’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center announced it will be closing, citing $60 million in upgrades for the facilities in order to keep running.

In light of the impending closure, St. Peter’s announced they’ll be helping to rehome each of their residents and envision closing their doors in three months. NEWS10’s Valerie Wencis spoke with the son of one of St. Peter’s current residents who reached out expressing concerns.

“She’s almost 94 years old, it takes awhile to get accustomed to somewhere,” Mark Esposito shared about his mother, Janice von Linden, who has been a resident of the facility for the last two years. “She’s comfortable there. And all of a sudden out of the blue, they send a message that they’re closing it down. So she’s all worried about where she’s going to be, and it’s stress put on the patients and residents that shouldn’t be happening.”

Esposito was driving to the Capital Region from his home in Pennsylvania in order to attend meetings at St. Peter’s on Monday. He says he has reached out to multiple government officials, including the Governor, on the matter.

In addition to what he says is undue stress on the residents, he’s skeptical they will be able to be placed within three months, as the letter families of patients received had indicated…
