CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In 1954, June Bacon-Bercey became the first black woman to earn a degree in meteorology when she graduated from UCLA. However, she holds many more accolades in the world of encouraging women to enter STEM fields.
She was the first Black woman to receive a degree in meteorology during a time in which both women and Black Americans were severely underrepresented.
