Ohio Valley Indigenous Music Festival seeks community support

The 10th Annual Ohio Valley Indigenous Music Festival is set for June 6 and 7 at Patricia Allyn Park, 7266 State Route 48 in Springboro, but they are seeking community financial support to put it on.

“When you think of music in the Native American culture, you always think of the drum and singers you would hear at a powwow or in some of our sacred ceremonies,” said Douglas Blue Feather, owner, organizer and promoter of the Ohio Valley Indigenous Music Festival. “The drum has always been very important. The other instrument that originated in the Native American culture is the Native American flute. It’s a very ancient instrument. It can be traced back over 2000 years. Today, it’s been modernized, of course, it’s a very unique-sounding instrument.”

The free and family-friendly festival will have six featured performances a day, starting at 10:30 a.m., with performers that play more contemporary music, featuring the Native American flute, as well as music that is considered more traditional, just the flute by itself, Blue Feather added…
