Multiple people taken to hospital after ambulance crash on I-40 at the Sevier-Jefferson County line, sheriff says

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Tennessee — Update (1:20 p.m.): Several people were taken to a hospital after a vehicle crashed into the back of an ambulance on westbound Interstate 40 on Friday at the Sevier-Jefferson County line.

According to Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Coffey, the EMS provider who was driving called dispatchers saying their ambulance had been rear-ended at mile marker 409, which is between the exits to Winfield Dunn Parkway and Deep Springs Road.

Coffey said the ambulance had its lights and sirens on. It was responding to a crash on the eastbound side of the interstate near mile marker 409 and was hit while trying to enter the turn-around lane…
