Kalamazoo Valley Museum to host 21st annual guitar festival

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Beginning Friday, visitors to the Kalamazoo Valley Museum can attend a weekend of guitar workshops and live performances during the 21st annual Kalamazoo Fretboard Festival.

“It’s definitely the museum’s biggest event,” said Anna Koenig, museum interpretations assistant manager at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum. “We are anticipating between 1,500 and 1,700 people.”

The festival kicks off with an event featuring Billy Davis, an inductee of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, at 6 p.m. March 20.

On March 21, festival attendees can enjoy a variety of performances and workshops between 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., including an “instrument petting zoo” organized by Great Lakes Acoustic Music.

“That is new to us this year,” Koenig said. “It’s an opportunity for individuals to get hands-on experience with traditional acoustic instruments.”…
