(FOX40.COM) — Family members, friends, and hundreds of law enforcement officers gathered in Stockton on Saturday to honor the life of San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Sergeant Jason Whelen, who died last month after suffering a medical emergency while on duty.
The public memorial service was held at Christian Life Center, where loved ones remembered Whelen not only for his service in uniform but for the kind man he was at home, at church and in the community.
As Whelen’s casket was carried into the service, his children hand in hand behind him in one of the day’s most emotional moments. Still, throughout the memorial, family and friends shared laughter as they reflected on personal stories…
