After losing $390,000 in an online scam, man sues bank and gold dealer for not trying to stop the fraud

An Essex County man filed a civil suit in state superior court on Tuesday to try and collect the $400,000 he spent on gold coins he was convinced to purchase in order to get a $691 reimbursement.

Jeffrey Maas, 76, of West Orange, claims Jaynesh Patel of Bensalem, Pennsylvania, was part of a scheme to steal $390,000 in gold coins he purchased to untangle hundreds of thousands of dollars in erroneous transactions.

Maas is also suing PNC Bank and a coin exchange for not stopping the fraud. A spokesperson for PNC Bank did not immediately respond to a request for comment…
