Oklahoma NASCAR driver Christopher Bell weighs in on upcoming Triple Header Week

The Texas Motor Speedway celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, and in less than two months, NASCAR Triple Header Week will feature five races in four days along the track in Fort Worth, Texas.

News 9 spoke to NASCAR driver and Norman, Oklahoma native Christopher Bell, one of the many drivers taking to the track that week, to learn more about what to expect.

When did you first know that you wanted to go fast and speed?

Bell: That was early on early on. So I got introduced to dirt track racing when I was young, probably three or four years old. I had a family friend [who] took me out to a racetrack, and I said I wanted to drive. Whenever my parents got it all set up, they spent so much money to get me all the driver’s gear. We got to the racetrack, and I said, ‘“I’m scared,” [but] after I got into the car, it was love at first drive.

You’re from Norman, Oklahoma. How did you get into racing?

Bell: So there’s a very, very healthy dirt track community around Oklahoma, whether that’s Tulsa or Oklahoma City. So that’s what I started doing. I grew up dirt track racing at I-44 Speedway at Port City Raceway in Tulsa. I fell in love with it, and the more that I did it, the more I wanted to do it. Never in a million years did I think that dirt track racing in Oklahoma would lead me to the Cup Series racing on Sundays, but yeah, it’s been a blast.

Tell us where you are in the Cup Series standings this morning.

Bell: Well, fortunately, we’ve had a good couple of weeks. So we’re very early into the season. We’ve had four points races. The first two races I performed really well, but didn’t finish well, and ended up crashing out. So I was very low in the standings in the thirties. But then over the last two weeks, I’ve been able to work my way up six positions…
