Crews came from Arkansas to help with a Gage County prescribed burn. They ended up helping with local wildfires too

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) — Prescribed burns take months to plan and execute, officials say, and are done by professionals trained and equipped to manage the fire.

Even though it seemed counterintuitive, Homestead National Historical Park conducted a series of controlled burns Friday.

“It has to be exactly the wind speed, the wind direction, the [relative humidity] factor, the moisture in the ground and the grasses,” said Susan Cook, superintendent at Homestead National Historical Park. “All of it has to be perfect for us to have a safe and good burn.”…
