Major Winter Storm This Weekend For Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota

A Major Winter Storm with Blizzard conditions is bearing down on parts of Minnesota, Iowa, and South Dakota.

Risks of heavy snow and blizzard conditions this weekend are growing.

The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls is forecasting areas of light snow to begin early Saturday, but the greatest impacts are expected Saturday night through Sunday when snowfall totals exceeding 6 to 12 inches will be possible in portions of the region.

Strong north winds develop early Sunday, and travel may become impossible due to blizzard conditions.

According to Todd Heitkamp, Meteorologist in Charge at the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls… “A major winter storm has begun to take aim on the Tri-State area! It now looks like periods of heavy snow will move into the area late Saturday evening and continue through midday on Sunday…
