MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Alabama school districts are facing a growing shortage of school bus drivers, affecting both larger metro systems and rural communities.
State Superintendent of Education Eric Mackey said the state’s driver shortage has become a consistent challenge year after year.
“We have a pretty significant school bus shortage across the state,” Mackey said. “It’s certainly worse in some counties than others, but really our large metro areas like Montgomery and Jefferson County have a shortage. Certainly, our rural counties have a shortage… It’s kind of a perpetual shortage.”
