Tri-State park turns removed invasive trees into fish habitat at local lake

BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) – An invasive tree known for its bright white spring blooms is getting a second life underwater in Butler County.

MetroParks of Butler County removed several Callery pear trees and repurposed them to create fish habitat.

Natural resources staff took the trees and dropped them into VOA Lake to form a new underwater structure for fish.

Callery pear trees are a common sight in the spring, but they have been banned in Ohio. The fast-growing trees spread easily because birds disperse their seeds, making it difficult for native trees to grow and thrive…
