A Florida high school teacher has been accused of fleeing the scene after allegedly hitting a student with his car.

On Dec. 11, 2025, Benjamin Fottler, a teacher at Winter Park High School, allegedly struck Landon Cates with his car while the student was riding his scooter near the intersection of Casselton Drive and State Road 436, per WFTV, Fox 35 and 12 News.

More than three months after the incident, Fottler, 49, was arrested and booked on a felony hit-and-run charge on March 10. He has since been released from jail on a $20,000 bond, 12 News reported, citing court records.

Fottler allegedly contacted the police moments after the incident, stating that he thought he had hit a traffic sign before going on to drop off his child at daycare…
