Police have identified a suspect following a stabbing involving a rideshare driver that occurred shortly after midnight Saturday in Newark.
According to the Newark Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 12:01 a.m. on March 14, 2026, for a reported stabbing in a business parking lot in the 100 block of Grove Lane. The investigation determined the victim was working as a rideshare driver and had picked up a passenger who listed Grove Lane as the destination.
Police said that at the end of the ride, the suspect, who was seated in the rear seat behind the driver, retrieved a knife and began stabbing the driver in the neck and the back of the head without warning. The suspect then ordered the driver to exit the vehicle and continued attempting to stab him. The victim fought back, and the suspect fled the area on foot…
